There were more female professionals in the City of Adelaide in 2021 than any other occupation.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in City of Adelaide in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:

  • Professionals (2,186 females or 36.1%)
  • Community and Personal Service Workers (1,052 females or 17.4%)
  • Clerical and Administrative Workers (963 females or 15.9%)

In combination these three occupations accounted for 4,201 females in total or 69.4% of the employed female resident population.

In comparison, Lower North Adelaide employed 34.7% in Professionals; 18.8% in Community and Personal Service Workers; and 15.8% in Clerical and Administrative Workers.

The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of the City of Adelaide and Lower North Adelaide were:

  • A larger percentage of females employed as Technicians and Trades Workers (4.5% compared to 2.9%)
  • A larger percentage of females employed as Professionals (36.1% compared to 34.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed as Sales Workers (8.4% compared to 10.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed as Community and Personal Service Workers (17.4% compared to 18.8%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed females in City of Adelaide increased by 1,636 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the occupations of female residents between 2016 and 2021 in the City of Adelaide were for those employed as:

  • Professionals (+547 females)
  • Community and Personal Service Workers (+372 females)
  • Clerical and Administrative Workers (+213 females)
  • Managers (+176 females)
