More Rural North residents worked in health care and social assistance than any other industry in 2021.

This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Rural North in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (352 people or 13.6%)
  • Construction (295 people or 11.4%)
  • Education and Training (236 people or 9.1%)

In combination, these three industries employed 883 people in total or 34.1% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Adelaide Hills Council employed 15.3% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 8.9% in Construction; and 11.1% in Education and Training.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Rural North and Adelaide Hills Council were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (7.0% compared to 3.8%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in construction (11.4% compared to 8.9%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in professional, scientific and technical services (4.8% compared to 9.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in education and training (9.1% compared to 11.1%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed people in Rural North increased by 197 between 2016 and 2021.
