Dominant groups

Analysis of the country of birth of the Arabic speaking population in Wollongong City Council in 2021 compared to Regional NSW shows that there was a smaller proportion of people born overseas.

Overall, 62.9% of the Arabic speaking population was born overseas, compared with 64.7% for Regional NSW.

The major differences between the countries of birth of the Arabic speaking population in Wollongong City and Regional NSW were:

  • A larger percentage of people born in Lebanon (20.4% compared to 15.0%)
  • A larger percentage of people born in Syria (14.5% compared to 11.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of people born in Egypt (3.1% compared to 9.9%)
  • A smaller percentage of people born in Sudan (0.8% compared to 2.8%)
