In 2021, the largest age group in Ward 1 was 45 to 49 year olds. The group that changed the most since 2016 was 70 to 74 year olds, increasing by 306 people.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the female five year age groups of Ward 1 in 2021 compared to Dapto - Brownsville shows that there was a similar proportion of females in the younger age groups (under 15) and a lower proportion of females in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 17.6% of the female population was aged between 0 and 15, and 20.1% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 17.5% and 21.8% respectively for Dapto - Brownsville.

The major differences between the female age structure of Ward 1 and Dapto - Brownsville were:

  • A larger percentage of females aged 55 to 59 (6.7% compared to 5.6%)
  • A larger percentage of females aged 60 to 64 (6.5% compared to 5.4%)
  • A larger percentage of females aged 45 to 49 (7.1% compared to 6.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of females aged 25 to 29 (5.0% compared to 6.6%)

Emerging groups

From 2016 to 2021, Ward 1's female population increased by 1,468 people (4.2%). This represents an average annual population change of 0.82% per year over the period.

The largest changes in female age structure in this area between 2016 and 2021 were in the age groups:

  • 70 to 74 (+306 females)
  • 60 to 64 (+280 females)
  • 75 to 79 (+247 females)
  • 65 to 69 (+214 females)
