Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander resident population in Wollongong City Council in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:
- Total employed persons aged 15+ (2,491 people or 100.0%)
- Professionals (435 people or 17.5%)
- Community and Personal Service Workers (421 people or 16.9%)
In combination these three occupations accounted for 3,347 people in total or 134.4% of the employed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander resident population.
The major differences between the occupations held by the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population of Wollongong City and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander of Regional NSW were:
- A larger percentage of people employed as Professionals (17.5% compared to 12.2%)
- A smaller percentage of people employed as Labourers (12.1% compared to 15.8%)
