Dominant groups
Analysis of the Vietnamese speaking population in the City of Whitehorse in 2021 compared to Greater Melbourne shows that there was a lower proportion of people in the younger age groups (under 15) and a higher proportion of people in the older age groups (65+).
Overall, 12.5% of the Vietnamese speaking population was aged between 0 and 14, and 16.7% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 15.4% and 10.0% respectively for Greater Melbourne.
The major differences between the age groups of the Vietnamese speaking population in the City of Whitehorse and Greater Melbourne were:
- A larger percentage of people aged 65 to 69 (7.7% compared to 4.7%)
- A larger percentage of people aged 70 to 74 (4.4% compared to 2.4%)
- A smaller percentage of people aged 15 to 19 (5.0% compared to 7.0%)
- A smaller percentage of people aged 5 to 9 (4.2% compared to 5.5%)
Emerging groups
From 2016 to 2021, City of Whitehorse's Vietnamese speaking population increased by 262 people (12.7%). This represents an average annual population change of 2.41% per year over the period.
The largest changes in the age groups of the Vietnamese speaking population in this area between 2016 and 2021 were in the age groups:
- 65 to 69 (+89 persons)
- 30 to 34 (+51 persons)
