Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in Toowoomba in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:
- Health Care and Social Assistance (11,280 females or 28.7%)
- Education and Training (6,233 females or 15.9%)
- Retail Trade (4,196 females or 10.7%)
In combination, these three industries employed 21,709 females in total or 55.2% of the total employed female resident population.
In comparison, Regional QLD employed 24.5% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 13.3% in Education and Training; and 11.6% in Retail Trade.
The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of Toowoomba and Regional QLD were:
- A larger percentage of females employed in health care and social assistance (28.7% compared to 24.5%)
- A larger percentage of females employed in education and training (15.9% compared to 13.3%)
- A larger percentage of females employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (4.0% compared to 2.9%)
- A smaller percentage of females employed in accommodation and food services (6.8% compared to 9.3%)
Emerging groups
The number of employed females in Toowoomba increased by 5,230 between 2016 and 2021.
The largest changes in the jobs held by the female resident population between 2016 and 2021 in Toowoomba were for those employed in:
- Health Care and Social Assistance (+3,028 females)
- Education and Training (+603 females)
- Retail Trade (+285 females)
- Other Services (+244 females)
