Sunshine Coast's industry statistics identify the industry sectors in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.
When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in Sunshine Coast in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:
- Construction (16,692 males or 21.1%)
- Health Care and Social Assistance (6,578 males or 8.3%)
- Retail Trade (6,513 males or 8.2%)
In combination, these three industries employed 29,783 males in total or 37.6% of the total employed male resident population.
In comparison, Maleny - Witta - North Maleny employed 15.5% in Construction; 9.5% in Health Care and Social Assistance; and 8.6% in Retail Trade.
The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of Sunshine Coast and Maleny - Witta - North Maleny were:
- A larger percentage of males employed in construction (21.1% compared to 15.5%)
- A larger percentage of males employed in transport, postal and warehousing (4.8% compared to 2.8%)
- A smaller percentage of males employed in professional, scientific and technical services (6.3% compared to 9.7%)
- A smaller percentage of males employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (2.0% compared to 4.9%)
Emerging groups
The number of employed males in Sunshine Coast increased by 26,197 between 2006 and 2021.
The largest changes in the jobs held by the male resident population between 2006 and 2021 in Sunshine Coast were for those employed in:
- Construction (+5,575 males)
- Health Care and Social Assistance (+4,252 males)
- Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+2,509 males)
- Accommodation and Food Services (+2,215 males)
