Dominant groups
Analysis of the five year age groups of Sunshine Coast in 2021 compared to Currimundi - Aroona - Battery Hill - Dicky Beach shows that there was a similar proportion of people in the younger age groups (under 15) and a lower proportion of people in the older age groups (65+).
Overall, 17.4% of the population was aged between 0 and 15, and 22.2% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 17.2% and 23.9% respectively for Currimundi - Aroona - Battery Hill - Dicky Beach.
The major differences between the age structure of Sunshine Coast and Currimundi - Aroona - Battery Hill - Dicky Beach were:
- A larger percentage of persons aged 25 to 29 (5.3% compared to 4.2%)
- A larger percentage of persons aged 30 to 34 (5.7% compared to 4.7%)
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 85 and over (2.7% compared to 3.6%)
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 80 to 84 (2.9% compared to 3.6%)
Emerging groups
From 2016 to 2021, Sunshine Coast's population increased by 44,334 people (14.8%). This represents an average annual population change of 2.8% per year over the period.
The largest changes in age structure in this area between 2016 and 2021 were in the age groups:
- 70 to 74 (+4,442 persons)
- 35 to 39 (+4,250 persons)
- 75 to 79 (+3,454 persons)
- 10 to 14 (+3,419 persons)
