Analysis of the service age groups of Inner West Council area in 2021 compared to SSROC region shows that there was a lower proportion of people in the younger age groups (0 to 17 years) as well as a lower proportion of people in the older age groups (60+ years).
Overall, 17.1% of the population was aged between 0 and 17, and 19.0% were aged 60 years and over, compared with 18.5% and 20.2% respectively for SSROC region.
The major differences between the age structure of Inner West Council area and SSROC region were:
- A larger percentage of 'Parents and homebuilders' (24.2% compared to 21.5%)
- A larger percentage of 'Older workers & pre-retirees' (12.7% compared to 11.8%)
- A smaller percentage of 'Tertiary education & independence' (7.8% compared to 9.2%)
