Analysis of the service age groups of Sutherland Shire in 2021 compared to Waverley Council Area shows that there was a higher proportion of people in the younger age groups (0 to 17 years) as well as a higher proportion of people in the older age groups (60+ years).
Overall, 22.2% of the population was aged between 0 and 17, and 24.8% were aged 60 years and over, compared with 18.5% and 17.1% respectively for Waverley Council Area.
The major differences between the age structure of Sutherland Shire and Waverley Council Area were:
- A larger percentage of 'Empty nesters and retirees' (11.3% compared to 7.5%)
- A larger percentage of 'Seniors' (10.7% compared to 7.6%)
- A smaller percentage of 'Young workforce' (11.5% compared to 23.5%)
- A smaller percentage of 'Parents and homebuilders' (20.4% compared to 23.9%)
