Analysis of the five year age groups of Inner West Council area in 2021 compared to the City of Sydney shows that there was a higher proportion of people in the younger age groups (under 15) as well as a higher proportion of people in the older age groups (65+).
Overall, 14.6% of the population was aged between 0 and 15, and 14.1% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 7.6% and 9.6% respectively for the City of Sydney.
The major differences between the age structure of Inner West Council area and the City of Sydney were:
- A larger percentage of persons aged 10 to 14 (4.8% compared to 1.8%)
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 25 to 29 (9.4% compared to 16.3%)
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 30 to 34 (9.9% compared to 15.9%)
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 20 to 24 (6.2% compared to 10.2%)
