Analysis of the five year age groups of Inner West Council area in 2021 compared to Sutherland Shire shows that there was a lower proportion of people in the younger age groups (under 15) as well as a lower proportion of people in the older age groups (65+).
Overall, 14.6% of the population was aged between 0 and 15, and 14.1% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 18.5% and 18.8% respectively for Sutherland Shire.
The major differences between the age structure of Inner West Council area and Sutherland Shire were:
- A larger percentage of persons aged 30 to 34 (9.9% compared to 6.0%)
- A larger percentage of persons aged 25 to 29 (9.4% compared to 5.5%)
- A larger percentage of persons aged 35 to 39 (9.0% compared to 6.6%)
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 15 to 19 (4.1% compared to 6.1%)
