Analysis of the five year age groups of the City of Sydney in 2021 compared to Bayside Council area shows that there was a lower proportion of people in the younger age groups (under 15) as well as a lower proportion of people in the older age groups (65+).
Overall, 7.6% of the population was aged between 0 and 15, and 9.6% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 15.1% and 14.7% respectively for Bayside Council area.
The major differences between the age structure of the City of Sydney and Bayside Council area were:
- A larger percentage of persons aged 25 to 29 (16.2% compared to 10.4%)
- A larger percentage of persons aged 30 to 34 (15.9% compared to 10.5%)
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 10 to 14 (1.8% compared to 4.5%)
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 5 to 9 (2.3% compared to 4.9%)
