Analysis of the number of bedrooms in dwellings in City of Sydney in 2021 compared to New South Wales shows that there was a higher proportion of dwellings with 2 bedrooms or less, and a lower proportion of dwellings with 4 or more bedrooms.
Overall, 74.4% of households were in dwellings with 2 bedrooms or less, and 4.4% of 4 or more bedroom dwellings, compared with 29.0% and 32.4% for New South Wales respectively.
The major differences between the number of bedrooms per dwelling of the City of Sydney and New South Wales were:
- A larger percentage of dwellings with 1 or no bedrooms (includes bedsitters) (34.8% compared to 7.2%)
- A larger percentage of 2 bedroom dwellings (39.6% compared to 21.8%)
- A smaller percentage of 4 bedroom dwellings (3.4% compared to 24.5%)
- A smaller percentage of 3 bedroom dwellings (14.4% compared to 33.2%)
