Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by recent overseas arrivals in City of Port Phillip in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:

  • Professionals (2,390 persons or 34.9%)
  • Managers (826 persons or 12.1%)
  • Technicians and Trades Workers (792 persons or 11.6%)

In combination these three occupations accounted for 4,008 people in total or 58.5% of the employed recent overseas arrivals.

In comparison, Greater Melbourne employed 26.6% in Professionals; 8.0% in Managers; and 12.0% in Technicians and Trades Workers.

The major differences between the jobs held by the recent overseas arriving population of the City of Port Phillip and Greater Melbourne were:

  • A larger percentage of people employed as Professionals (34.9% compared to 26.6%)
  • A larger percentage of people employed as Managers (12.1% compared to 8.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of people employed as Labourers (10.0% compared to 15.3%)
