Dominant groups

Analysis of the language used at home by the population of Griffin in 2021 compared to the Former Caboolture Shire District shows that there was a smaller proportion of people who used English only, and a larger proportion of those using a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).

Overall, 74.0% of the population used English only, and 22.1% used a non-English language, compared with 87.9% and 5.9% respectively for the Former Caboolture Shire District.

The dominant language used at home, other than English, in Griffin was Punjabi, with 7.2% of the population, or 883 people using this language at home.

The major differences between the languages used at home for the population of Griffin and the Former Caboolture Shire District in 2021 were:

  • A larger percentage using Punjabi at home (7.2% compared to 0.2%)
  • A larger percentage using Hindi at home (1.7% compared to 0.2%)
  • A larger percentage using Filipino/Tagalog at home (1.8% compared to 0.6%)

  • Filipino/Tagalog (+160 persons)
  • Hindi (+146 persons)
  • Nepali (+126 persons)
