When viewed with other indicators, such as Educational Qualifications and Individual Income, Occupation is a key measure for evaluating Chelsea's socio-economic status and skill base.

Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in Chelsea in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:
- Professionals (711 females or 33.1%)
- Clerical and Administrative Workers (454 females or 21.1%)
- Community and Personal Service Workers (325 females or 15.1%)
In combination these three occupations accounted for 1,490 females in total or 69.3% of the employed female resident population.
In comparison, Banksia Ward employed 28.2% in Professionals; 25.0% in Clerical and Administrative Workers; and 14.8% in Community and Personal Service Workers.
The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of Chelsea and Banksia Ward were:
- A larger percentage of females employed as Professionals (33.1% compared to 28.2%)
- A smaller percentage of females employed as Clerical and Administrative Workers (21.1% compared to 25.0%)
- A smaller percentage of females employed as Sales Workers (8.1% compared to 9.5%)
Emerging groups
The number of employed females in Chelsea increased by 324 between 2016 and 2021.
The largest changes in the occupations of female residents between 2016 and 2021 in Chelsea were for those employed as:
- Professionals (+182 females)
- Managers (+72 females)
