Industry sector of employment

More Division 03 residents worked in health care and social assistance than any other industry in 2021.

Division 03's industry statistics identify the industry sectors in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.

When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Division 03 in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (3,666 people or 15.7%)
  • Retail Trade (2,443 people or 10.4%)
  • Manufacturing (2,238 people or 9.6%)

In combination, these three industries employed 8,347 people in total or 35.6% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Redbank Plains employed 15.3% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 9.9% in Retail Trade; and 12.3% in Manufacturing.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Division 03 and Redbank Plains were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in education and training (8.1% compared to 6.2%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in public administration and safety (7.3% compared to 5.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in manufacturing (9.6% compared to 12.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in transport, postal and warehousing (6.6% compared to 8.4%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed people in Division 03 increased by 4,023 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the resident population between 2016 and 2021 in Division 03 were for those employed in:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+965 persons)
  • Retail Trade (+399 persons)
  • Accommodation and Food Services (+300 persons)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+297 persons)
