In the City of Greater Geelong, 66% of households were purchasing or fully owned their home, 23.8% were renting privately, and 3.1% were in social housing in 2021.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the housing tenure of households of the City of Greater Geelong in 2021 compared to Central Geelong shows that there was a larger proportion of households who owned their dwelling; a larger proportion purchasing their dwelling; and a smaller proportion who were renters.

Overall, 33.1% of households owned their dwelling; 33.3% were purchasing, and 27.1% were renting, compared with 25.3%, 13.3% and 50.0% respectively for Central Geelong.
