Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Torquay in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:
- Health Care and Social Assistance (517 people or 25.7%)
- Accommodation and Food Services (237 people or 11.8%)
- Retail Trade (232 people or 11.5%)
In combination, these three industries employed 986 people in total or 49.0% of the total employed resident population.
In comparison, Toogoom employed 23.3% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 8.9% in Accommodation and Food Services; and 12.4% in Retail Trade.
The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Torquay and Toogoom were:
- A larger percentage of persons employed in accommodation and food services (11.8% compared to 8.9%)
- A larger percentage of persons employed in health care and social assistance (25.7% compared to 23.3%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed in construction (8.6% compared to 10.4%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed in administrative and support services (3.1% compared to 4.5%)

The number of employed people in Torquay increased by 174 between 2016 and 2021.
The largest change in the jobs held by the resident population between 2016 and 2021 in Torquay was for those employed in:
- Health Care and Social Assistance (+139 persons)
