Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Torquay in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (517 people or 25.7%)
  • Accommodation and Food Services (237 people or 11.8%)
  • Retail Trade (232 people or 11.5%)

In combination, these three industries employed 986 people in total or 49.0% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Toogoom employed 23.3% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 8.9% in Accommodation and Food Services; and 12.4% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Torquay and Toogoom were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in accommodation and food services (11.8% compared to 8.9%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in health care and social assistance (25.7% compared to 23.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in construction (8.6% compared to 10.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in administrative and support services (3.1% compared to 4.5%)
