Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Rural West in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (119 people or 29.3%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (42 people or 10.3%)
  • Construction (37 people or 9.1%)

In combination, these three industries employed 198 people in total or 48.8% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Toogoom employed 1.3% in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing; 23.3% in Health Care and Social Assistance; and 10.4% in Construction.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Rural West and Toogoom were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (29.3% compared to 1.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in health care and social assistance (10.3% compared to 23.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in retail trade (2.7% compared to 12.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in accommodation and food services (3.7% compared to 8.9%)

The number of employed people in Rural West increased by 83 between 2016 and 2021.
