This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.

When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Urraween in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (731 people or 29.5%)
  • Retail Trade (297 people or 12.0%)
  • Education and Training (249 people or 10.0%)

In combination, these three industries employed 1,277 people in total or 51.5% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Granville and Surrounds employed 17.5% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 10.1% in Retail Trade; and 8.6% in Education and Training.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Urraween and Granville and Surrounds were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in health care and social assistance (29.5% compared to 17.5%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in accommodation and food services (8.6% compared to 6.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in manufacturing (3.4% compared to 11.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (0.5% compared to 3.9%)
