More EMRC area female residents worked in health care and social assistance than any other industry in 2021.

EMRC area's industry statistics identify the industry sectors in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.

When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in EMRC area in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (14,918 females or 22.3%)
  • Education and Training (8,392 females or 12.5%)
  • Retail Trade (7,584 females or 11.3%)

In combination, these three industries employed 30,894 females in total or 46.1% of the total employed female resident population.

In comparison, the Town of Bassendean employed 21.9% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 14.7% in Education and Training; and 9.1% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of EMRC area and the Town of Bassendean were:

  • A larger percentage of females employed in retail trade (11.3% compared to 9.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in education and training (12.5% compared to 14.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in professional, scientific and technical services (5.9% compared to 7.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in public administration and safety (6.8% compared to 8.1%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed females in EMRC area increased by 10,237 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the female resident population between 2016 and 2021 in EMRC area were for those employed in:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+3,753 females)
  • Education and Training (+1,425 females)
  • Mining (+833 females)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+767 females)
