Dominant groups
Analysis of the five year age groups of Mascot in 2021 compared to Bayside Council area shows that there was a lower proportion of people in the younger age groups (under 15) as well as a lower proportion of people in the older age groups (65+).
Overall, 11.7% of the population was aged between 0 and 15, and 7.5% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 15.1% and 14.8% respectively for Bayside Council area.
The major differences between the age structure of Mascot and Bayside Council area were:
- A larger percentage of persons aged 25 to 29 (19.0% compared to 10.4%)
- A larger percentage of persons aged 20 to 24 (13.3% compared to 7.8%)
- A larger percentage of persons aged 30 to 34 (15.3% compared to 10.5%)
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 70 to 74 (1.7% compared to 3.7%)

From 2016 to 2021, Mascot's population increased by 6,833 people (46.3%). This represents an average annual population change of 7.91% per year over the period.
The largest changes in age structure in this area between 2016 and 2021 were in the age groups:
- 25 to 29 (+1,919 persons)
- 30 to 34 (+1,420 persons)
- 20 to 24 (+1,320 persons)
- 35 to 39 (+660 persons)
