There were more female professionals in the City of Ballarat in 2021 than any other occupation.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in City of Ballarat in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:

  • Professionals (7,259 females or 27.4%)
  • Community and Personal Service Workers (5,233 females or 19.7%)
  • Clerical and Administrative Workers (4,998 females or 18.9%)

In combination these three occupations accounted for 17,490 females in total or 66.0% of the employed female resident population.

In comparison, Lucas - Cardigan employed 30.7% in Professionals; 18.8% in Community and Personal Service Workers; and 21.2% in Clerical and Administrative Workers.

The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of the City of Ballarat and Lucas - Cardigan were:

  • A larger percentage of females employed as Labourers (7.2% compared to 5.1%)
  • A larger percentage of females employed as Technicians and Trades Workers (4.5% compared to 2.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed as Professionals (27.4% compared to 30.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed as Clerical and Administrative Workers (18.9% compared to 21.2%)

The number of employed females in City of Ballarat increased by 4,478 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the occupations of female residents between 2016 and 2021 in the City of Ballarat were for those employed as:

  • Professionals (+1,515 females)
  • Community and Personal Service Workers (+1,233 females)
  • Managers (+628 females)
  • Clerical and Administrative Workers (+565 females)
