There were more technicians and trades workers in Ward 3 in 2021 than any other occupation.

Ward 3's occupation statistics quantify the occupations in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the economic base and employment opportunities available in the area, education levels, and the working and social aspirations of the population. When viewed with other indicators, such as Educational Qualifications and Individual Income, Occupation is a key measure for evaluating Ward 3's socio-economic status and skill base.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Ward 3 in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:

  • Technicians and Trades Workers (4,851 people or 16.6%)
  • Professionals (4,775 people or 16.4%)
  • Community and Personal Service Workers (4,001 people or 13.7%)

In combination these three occupations accounted for 13,627 people in total or 46.7% of the employed resident population.

In comparison, Keiraville - Mount Keira employed 8.7% in Technicians and Trades Workers; 32.9% in Professionals; and 13.8% in Community and Personal Service Workers.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Ward 3 and Keiraville - Mount Keira were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed as Technicians and Trades Workers (16.6% compared to 8.7%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed as Labourers (11.5% compared to 6.7%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed as Machinery Operators And Drivers (8.7% compared to 4.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed as Professionals (16.4% compared to 32.9%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed people in Ward 3 increased by 6,027 between 2006 and 2021.

The largest changes in the occupations of residents between 2006 and 2021 in Ward 3 were for those employed as:

  • Professionals (+1,842 persons)
  • Community and Personal Service Workers (+1,740 persons)
  • Managers (+768 persons)
  • Technicians and Trades Workers (+643 persons)
