Dominant groups

Analysis of the language used at home by the population of Ward 3 in 2021 compared to Keiraville - Mount Keira shows that there was a larger proportion of people who used English only, and a smaller proportion of those using a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).

Overall, 79.4% of the population used English only, and 15.9% used a non-English language, compared with 74.4% and 18.2% respectively for Keiraville - Mount Keira.

The dominant language used at home, other than English, in Ward 3 was Macedonian, with 3.5% of the population, or 2,474 people using this language at home.

The major differences between the languages used at home for the population of Ward 3 and Keiraville - Mount Keira in 2021 were:

  • A larger percentage using Macedonian at home (3.5% compared to 1.2%)
  • A smaller percentage using Mandarin at home (0.4% compared to 3.1%)

Emerging groups

Between 2006 and 2021, the number of people who used a language other than English at home decreased by 23 or 0.2%, and the number of people who used English only increased by 9,007 or 19.4%.

The largest changes in the languages used by the population in Ward 3 between 2006 and 2021 were for those using:

  • Italian (-769 persons)
  • Arabic (+623 persons)
  • Macedonian (-595 persons)
  • Portuguese (-267 persons)
