Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Wellington Shire in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (2,940 people or 15.2%)
  • Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (2,213 people or 11.5%)
  • Construction (1,854 people or 9.6%)

In combination, these three industries employed 7,007 people in total or 36.3% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Sale rural surrounds employed 7.6% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 19.6% in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing; and 7.0% in Construction.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Wellington Shire and Sale rural surrounds were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in health care and social assistance (15.2% compared to 7.6%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in retail trade (8.9% compared to 5.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in public administration and safety (9.4% compared to 27.4%)
