More Taree male residents worked in construction than any other industry in 2021.

Taree's industry statistics identify the industry sectors in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.

When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in Taree in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Construction (362 males or 13.3%)
  • Retail Trade (362 males or 13.3%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (350 males or 12.8%)

In combination, these three industries employed 1,074 males in total or 39.4% of the total employed male resident population.

In comparison, Wingham employed 15.9% in Construction; 9.1% in Retail Trade; and 10.6% in Health Care and Social Assistance.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of Taree and Wingham were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed in retail trade (13.3% compared to 9.1%)
  • A larger percentage of males employed in accommodation and food services (8.5% compared to 5.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in manufacturing (9.3% compared to 14.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in construction (13.3% compared to 15.9%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed males in Taree increased by 167 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the male resident population between 2016 and 2021 in Taree were for those employed in:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+103 males)
  • Construction (+66 males)
