Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in MidCoast Council area in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Construction (3,076 males or 18.1%)
  • Retail Trade (1,541 males or 9.1%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (1,457 males or 8.6%)

In combination, these three industries employed 6,074 males in total or 35.8% of the total employed male resident population.

In comparison, Wingham employed 15.9% in Construction; 9.1% in Retail Trade; and 10.6% in Health Care and Social Assistance.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of MidCoast Council area and Wingham were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (6.8% compared to 3.1%)
  • A larger percentage of males employed in accommodation and food services (7.8% compared to 5.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in manufacturing (7.4% compared to 14.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in transport, postal and warehousing (5.6% compared to 7.9%)

The number of employed males in MidCoast Council area increased by 1,606 between 2011 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the male resident population between 2011 and 2021 in MidCoast Council area were for those employed in:

  • Construction (+718 males)
  • Manufacturing (-540 males)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+525 males)
  • Accommodation and Food Services (+309 males)
