Dominant groups

Analysis of the car ownership of people born in Vietnam in the City of Yarra in 2021 compared to Greater Melbourne shows that 69.2% of people born in Vietnam were in households that owned at least one car, while 28.8% did not, compared with 92.0% and 6.6% respectively in Greater Melbourne.

Of those that owned at least one vehicle, there was a larger proportion that owned just one car; a smaller proportion owned two cars; and a smaller proportion that owned three cars or more.

Overall, 46.2% of people born in Vietnam were in households that owned one car; 17.4% owned two cars; and 5.6% owned three cars or more, compared with 25.6%; 38.7% and 27.6% respectively for Greater Melbourne.
