Five year age groups

In 2021, the largest age group in Urban Area was 35 to 39 year olds. The group that changed the most since 2016 was 35 to 39 year olds, increasing by 639 people.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the female five year age groups of Urban Area in 2021 compared to Nillumbik Shire shows that there was a similar proportion of females in the younger age groups (under 15) and a higher proportion of females in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 18.0% of the female population was aged between 0 and 15, and 18.4% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 18.0% and 16.9% respectively for Nillumbik Shire.

The major differences between the female age structure of Urban Area and Nillumbik Shire were:

  • A larger percentage of females aged 30 to 34 (7.4% compared to 4.8%)
  • A larger percentage of females aged 25 to 29 (6.2% compared to 4.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of females aged 50 to 54 (6.5% compared to 8.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of females aged 55 to 59 (6.1% compared to 7.7%)

Emerging groups

From 2016 to 2021, Urban Area's female population increased by 2,215 people (5.7%). This represents an average annual population change of 1.11% per year over the period.

The largest changes in female age structure in this area between 2016 and 2021 were in the age groups:

  • 35 to 39 (+639 females)
  • 70 to 74 (+462 females)
  • 75 to 79 (+349 females)
  • 30 to 34 (+308 females)
