Dominant groups

Analysis of the language spoken at home by people aged 18 to 24 years in the City of Wyndham in 2021 compared to Greater Melbourne shows that there was a smaller proportion of people who spoke English only, and a larger proportion of those speaking a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).

Overall, 50.6% of people aged 18 to 24 years spoke English only, and 42.2% of% spoke a non-English language, compared with 62.6% and 32.5% respectively for Greater Melbourne.

Other than English, the dominant language spoken at home by people aged 18 to 24 years in the City of Wyndham was Punjabi, with 8.7% of the population, or 2,096 people speaking this language at home.

The major differences between the languages spoken at home for people aged 18 to 24 years of the City of Wyndham and Greater Melbourne in 2021 were:
