Dominant groups

Analysis of the service age groups of Ward 1 in 2021 compared to Bellambi shows that there was a similar proportion of people in the younger age groups (0 to 17 years) and a higher proportion of people in the older age groups (60+ years).

Overall, 22.3% of the population was aged between 0 and 17, and 25.3% were aged 60 years and over, compared with 22.2% and 24.1% respectively for Bellambi.

The major differences between the age structure of Ward 1 and Bellambi were:

  • A larger percentage of 'Older workers & pre-retirees' (13.3% compared to 11.9%)
  • A larger percentage of 'Frail aged' (2.7% compared to 1.4%)
  • A larger percentage of 'Parents and homebuilders' (20.0% compared to 18.9%)
  • A smaller percentage of 'Young workforce' (11.0% compared to 14.4%)

From 2016 to 2021, Ward 1's population increased by 3,297 people (4.9%). This represents an average annual population change of 0.95% per year over the period.

The largest changes in the age structure in this area between 2016 and 2021 were in the age groups:

  • Empty nesters and retirees (60 to 69) (+1,087 people)
  • Secondary schoolers (12 to 17) (+289 people)
