Dominant groups
Analysis of the household/family types of Italian speakers in Wollongong City Council in 2021 compared to Regional NSW shows that there was a lower proportion of Italian speakers in couple families with child(ren) as well as a higher proportion in one-parent families. Overall, 29.8% of Italian speakers were in couple families with child(ren), and 12.1% were one-parent families, compared with 32.3% and 10.8% respectively for Regional NSW.
There were a higher proportion of Italian speakers in lone person households and a higher proportion in couples without children. Overall, the proportion of Italian speakers in lone person households was 20.9% compared to 17.8% in Regional NSW while the proportion in couples without children was 34.5% compared to 33.8% in Regional NSW.
