Analysis of the household/family types of Spanish speakers in Wollongong City Council in 2021 compared to Regional NSW shows that there was a similar proportion of Spanish speakers in couple families with child(ren) as well as a higher proportion in one-parent families. Overall, 44.3% of Spanish speakers were in couple families with child(ren), and 12.6% were one-parent families, compared with 44.0% and 10.2% respectively for Regional NSW.
There were a higher proportion of Spanish speakers in lone person households and a lower proportion in couples without children. Overall, the proportion of Spanish speakers in lone person households was 11.5% compared to 9.4% in Regional NSW while the proportion in couples without children was 27.6% compared to 28.4% in Regional NSW.
The number of Spanish speakers in households in Wollongong City Council increased by 87 between 2016 and 2021.
