Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in West Wollongong in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (423 people or 17.2%)
  • Education and Training (344 people or 14.0%)
  • Accommodation and Food Services (219 people or 8.9%)

In combination, these three industries employed 986 people in total or 40.2% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Keiraville - Mount Keira employed 14.8% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 16.5% in Education and Training; and 11.6% in Accommodation and Food Services.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of West Wollongong and Keiraville - Mount Keira were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in construction (8.8% compared to 4.6%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in health care and social assistance (17.2% compared to 14.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in accommodation and food services (8.9% compared to 11.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in education and training (14.0% compared to 16.5%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed people in West Wollongong increased by 207 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the resident population between 2016 and 2021 in West Wollongong were for those employed in:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+84 persons)
  • Construction (+58 persons)
