More Ward 1 residents worked in health care and social assistance than any other industry in 2021.

Ward 1's industry statistics identify the industry sectors in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.

When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Ward 1 in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (5,442 people or 16.3%)
  • Education and Training (4,241 people or 12.7%)
  • Construction (3,449 people or 10.3%)

In combination, these three industries employed 13,132 people in total or 39.3% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Windang - Primbee employed 16.5% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 9.7% in Education and Training; and 12.2% in Construction.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Ward 1 and Windang - Primbee were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in education and training (12.7% compared to 9.7%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in professional, scientific and technical services (7.8% compared to 5.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in construction (10.3% compared to 12.2%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in transport, postal and warehousing (4.2% compared to 5.8%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed people in Ward 1 increased by 2,016 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the resident population between 2016 and 2021 in Ward 1 were for those employed in:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+897 persons)
  • Construction (+487 persons)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+458 persons)
  • Public Administration and Safety (+194 persons)
