Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in West Wollongong in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (333 females or 28.4%)
  • Education and Training (222 females or 18.9%)
  • Retail Trade (116 females or 9.9%)

In combination, these three industries employed 671 females in total or 57.2% of the total employed female resident population.

In comparison, Keiraville - Mount Keira employed 22.3% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 22.0% in Education and Training; and 10.9% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of West Wollongong and Keiraville - Mount Keira were:

  • A larger percentage of females employed in health care and social assistance (28.4% compared to 22.3%)
  • A larger percentage of females employed in administrative and support services (3.5% compared to 1.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in education and training (18.9% compared to 22.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in accommodation and food services (9.0% compared to 11.5%)

The number of employed females in West Wollongong increased by 128 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest change in the jobs held by the female resident population between 2016 and 2021 in West Wollongong was for those employed in:
