Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Wollongong City in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (16,950 people or 17.3%)
  • Education and Training (10,985 people or 11.2%)
  • Construction (9,045 people or 9.2%)

In combination, these three industries employed 36,980 people in total or 37.7% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Fairy Meadow employed 16.1% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 10.1% in Education and Training; and 7.6% in Construction.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Wollongong City and Fairy Meadow were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in construction (9.2% compared to 7.6%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in health care and social assistance (17.3% compared to 16.1%)
