Dominant groups

Analysis of the household/family types in Ward 1 in 2021 compared to Wollongong City shows that there was a higher proportion of couple families with child(ren) as well as a similar proportion of one-parent families. Overall, 32.4% of total families were couple families with child(ren), and 11.1% were one-parent families, compared with 29.3% and 11.2% respectively for Wollongong City.

There were a lower proportion of lone person households and a similar proportion of couples without children. Overall, the proportion of lone person households was 24.5% compared to 25.4% in Wollongong City while the proportion of couples without children was 24.8% compared to 25.0% in Wollongong City.

Emerging groups

The number of households in Ward 1 increased by 4,473 between 2001 and 2021.

The largest changes in family/household types in Ward 1 between 2001 and 2021 were:

  • Lone person (+1,387 households)
