Dominant groups
Analysis of the household/family types of people aged 55 to 64 years in Wollongong City Council in 2021 compared to Regional NSW, shows that there was a higher proportion of people aged 55 to 64 years in couple families with child(ren) as well as a higher proportion in one-parent families. Overall, 29.8% of people aged 55 to 64 years were in couple families with child(ren), and 10.3% were in one-parent families, compared with 20.8% and 8.8% respectively for Regional NSW.
There was a similar proportion of people aged 55 to 64 years in lone person households and a lower proportion in couples without children. Overall, the proportion of people aged 55 to 64 years in lone person households was 17.1% compared to 17.3% in Regional NSW while the proportion of couples without children was 36.5% compared to 42.7% in Regional NSW.
