Analysis of the household/family types of children aged 0 to 4 years in Wollongong City Council in 2021 compared to Regional NSW, shows that there was a higher proportion of children aged 0 to 4 years in couple families with child(ren) as well as a lower proportion in one-parent families. Overall, 83.8% of children aged 0 to 4 years were in couple families with child(ren), and 11.9% were in one-parent families, compared with 76.7% and 16.5% respectively for Regional NSW.
There was a similar proportion of children aged 0 to 4 years in lone person households and a similar proportion in couples without children. Overall, the proportion of children aged 0 to 4 years in lone person households was 0.2% compared to 0.5% in Regional NSW while the proportion of couples without children was 0.6% compared to 0.8% in Regional NSW.
The number of children aged 0 to 4 years in households in Wollongong City increased by 115 between 2016 and 2021.
