Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the Chinese languages speaking resident population in City of Whittlesea in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:
- Professionals (888 people or 25.1%)
- Technicians and Trades Workers (503 people or 14.2%)
- Labourers (417 people or 11.8%)
In combination these three occupations accounted for 1,808 people in total or 51.1% of the employed resident population.
In comparison, Greater Melbourne employed 33.1% in Professionals; 9.6% in Technicians and Trades Workers; and 7.6% in Labourers.
The major differences between the jobs held by the Chinese languages speaking population of the City of Whittlesea and Greater Melbourne were:
- A larger percentage of people employed as Technicians and Trades Workers (14.2% compared to 9.6%)
- A larger percentage of people employed as Labourers (11.8% compared to 7.6%)
- A smaller percentage of people employed as Professionals (25.1% compared to 33.1%)
- A smaller percentage of people employed as Managers (9.7% compared to 13.5%)
Emerging groups
The number of employed Chinese languages speakers in City of Whittlesea increased by 537 between 2016 and 2021.
The largest changes in the occupations of Chinese languages speaking residents between 2016 and 2021 in the City of Whittlesea were for those employed as:
- Professionals (+181 persons)
- Community and Personal Service Workers (+90 persons)
