Dominant groups

Analysis of the country of birth of the Chinese languages speaking population in the City of Whittlesea in 2021 compared to Greater Melbourne shows that there was a smaller proportion of people born overseas.

Overall, 76.9% of the Chinese languages speaking population was born overseas, compared with 80.4% for Greater Melbourne.

The major differences between the countries of birth of the Chinese languages speaking population in the City of Whittlesea and Greater Melbourne were:

  • A larger percentage of people born in Timor-Leste (3.7% compared to 1.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of people born in Hong Kong (SAR of China) (4.5% compared to 6.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of people born in China (excludes SARs and Taiwan) (49.9% compared to 51.7%)
