Dominant groups

Analysis of the language used at home by the population of Epping in 2021 compared to the City of Whittlesea shows that there was a smaller proportion of people who used English only, and a larger proportion of those using a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).

Overall, 43.1% of the population used English only, and 49.9% used a non-English language, compared with 50.2% and 45.1% respectively for the City of Whittlesea.

The dominant language used at home, other than English, in Epping was Arabic, with 6.8% of the population, or 2,275 people using this language at home.

The major difference between the languages used at home for the population of Epping and the City of Whittlesea in 2021 was:

  • A larger percentage using Arabic at home (6.8% compared to 5.2%)
