In 2016, dwellings with 3 bedrooms were the most common amongst recent arrivals in the City of Whittlesea.
The Number of Bedrooms in a dwelling is an indicator of the size of dwellings, and when combined with Dwelling Type information, provides insight into the role the City of Whittlesea plays in the housing market for recent arrivals.
Areas with large student populations among their recent arrivals may have many single bedroom dwellings or bedsits, particularly with purpose-built student accommodation. Families may live in dwellings with larger number of bedrooms.
In combination with Household Type and Household Size, the Number of Bedrooms can also indicate issues around housing affordability and overcrowding among migrant communities.

Dominant groups
Analysis of the number of bedrooms in dwellings for recent arrivals in the City of Whittlesea shows that there was a lower proportion of recent arrivals in dwellings with 1 or 2 bedrooms, and a higher proportion in dwellings with 4 or more bedrooms compared to the [Parameter].[BMACOIIDLabel] in 2016.
Overall, 13.0% of recent arrivals were in 1 or 2 bedroom dwellings, and 45.1% in 4 or more bedroom dwellings, compared with 16.6% and 41.9% for [Parameter].[BMACOIIDLabel] respectively.
The major differences between the number of bedrooms per dwelling for recent arrivals in the City of Whittlesea and [Parameter].[BMACOIIDLabel] were:
- A larger percentage of people in 4 bedrooms (39.4% compared to 33.2%)
- A larger percentage of people in 3 bedrooms (40.8% compared to 37.2%)
