Dominant groups
Analysis of the language spoken at home by people aged 18 to 25 years in the City of Whittlesea in 2021 compared to Greater Melbourne shows that there was a smaller proportion of people who spoke English only, and a larger proportion of those speaking a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).
Overall, 55.5% of people aged 18 to 25 years spoke English only, and 39.7% of% spoke a non-English language, compared with 61.8% and 33.2% respectively for Greater Melbourne.
Other than English, the dominant language spoken at home by people aged 18 to 25 years in the City of Whittlesea was Arabic, with 6.4% of the population, or 1,462 people speaking this language at home.
The major differences between the languages spoken at home for people aged 18 to 25 years of the City of Whittlesea and Greater Melbourne in 2021 were:

The largest changes in the spoken languages of people aged 18 to 25 years in the City of Whittlesea between 2016 and 2021 were for those speaking:
- Punjabi (+327 persons)
- Mandarin (-285 persons)
- Nepali (+207 persons)
- Arabic (+203 persons)
