Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in City of Whitehorse in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (9,114 females or 22.4%)
  • Education and Training (5,890 females or 14.5%)
  • Retail Trade (4,172 females or 10.2%)

In combination, these three industries employed 19,176 females in total or 47.1% of the total employed female resident population.

In comparison, Forest Hill employed 22.4% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 14.3% in Education and Training; and 12.4% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of the City of Whitehorse and Forest Hill were:

  • A larger percentage of females employed in accommodation and food services (6.8% compared to 5.2%)
  • A larger percentage of females employed in professional, scientific and technical services (10.1% compared to 9.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in retail trade (10.2% compared to 12.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in manufacturing (3.8% compared to 5.0%)

The number of employed females in City of Whitehorse increased by 4,691 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the female resident population between 2016 and 2021 in the City of Whitehorse were for those employed in:

  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+654 females)
  • Education and Training (+532 females)
  • Financial and Insurance Services (+419 females)
